How to Choose the Right Coffee Product for Your Office

How to Choose the Right Coffee Product for Your OfficeTremendous growth in the office coffee industry has created an environment in which there are a lot of great choices in everything from coffee to tea to specialty water drinks. That is good in the sense that more choices make it easier to satisfy most of the office. Yet it can be somewhat overwhelming for the person responsible for ordering.

We want to make choosing the right office coffee products easier for our customers. To that end, we have put together a list of things to consider. We suggest taking some time to evaluate each item before making any decisions. And remember, no decision is set in stone. You can always change what you order as needed.

1. Product Pricing

It would be disingenuous for us to create a list of this nature and ignore pricing. The reality is that offices have to consider how much they will spend on office coffee. If your company is on a very tight budget, you might want to consider traditional drip brew coffee instead of single serve. Drip brew offers great pricing and a wide range of options.

2. Employee Preferences

Anyone who has ever ordered office coffee before can testify that it is impossible to please everyone. Still, it’s good to get an idea of employee preferences prior to ordering. If a fair majority of the office prefers flavored coffee, it might be worth investing in at least one or two flavors for the sake of morale. You could still purchase regular coffee for those not interested in flavors.

3. Coffee Volume

The amount of coffee your office consumes, which is often determined by your headcount, is another crucial factor. Serving coffee to a lot of people at one time will lead you down a different path on the choice of equipment. As with most things, there are trade-offs on price, coffee quality and product selection.

4. Available Equipment

When you order coffee and water from Galaxie Coffee, you also have to think equipment. The equipment you choose is determined by the amount of coffee and water your office normally consumes. We have single serve machines for offices that prefer to brew one cup of coffee or tea at a time alongside traditional drip brewers that can brew up to 12 cups at a time. We even have large commercial machines for your company café. All our machines are meticulously maintained so as to provide our customers with reliable service day in and day out.

Give Us a Call

We have given you four things to think about when choosing the right coffee products for your office. If you still don’t know what to do, don’t worry. Give us a call and speak with one of our office coffee specialists. We can help you figure out what would be best based on pricing, employee preferences, volume, and your equipment needs. Rest assured there is an ideal solution for your office.

3 Reasons Coffee Should Come from a Coffee Service Provider

3 Reasons Coffee Should Come from a Coffee Service ProviderThe tri-state area is large enough to support office supply companies that want to dabble in coffee and breakroom supplies. In fact, a lot of office supply companies do just that. Yet there are also coffee service providers like Galaxie Coffee offering a full line of beverages along with coffee equipment and breakroom supplies. The question for business owners is which way to go.

It is our firm belief that your coffee should come from a coffee service provider rather than an office supply company. We do not sell printer paper or pens. We do not service copy machines or computers. And if we did, you would probably not trust us to provide what you would consider a tertiary service on our part. So why buy your office coffee and breakroom supplies from a company that specializes in copy paper, pens, and printer ink?

We believe there are many reasons that your office coffee and breakroom supplies should come from a specialist provider like Galaxie Coffee. Here are the top three:

1. Larger Product Selection

Did you know Galaxie Coffee’s product list includes hundreds of different items? We carry one of the most complete selections of beverage and breakroom supplies in the tri-state area, covering everything from coffee and tea to ‘green’ breakroom supplies. You will never find such an extensive inventory at an office supply company.

Office supply companies typically don’t offer the same depth of coffee and breakroom products as office coffee service companies do. More importantly, if you have product questions, you can easily speak to a knowledgeable customer service representative with a single phone call. You won’t spend ten minutes on hold and then find out your question will be answered within 48 hours.

2. Superior Service

A dedicated coffee service provider like Galaxie Coffee offers customers superior service in everything from product delivery to machine maintenance. All it takes is one phone call to our offices to get the beverages and breakroom supplies you need as quickly as possible. And if your coffee machine or water cooler ever breaks down, we will be there quickly to fix or replace it. We can do that because we have a staff of trained technicians and an inventory of replacement equipment just waiting to go.

3. It is All We Do

Finally, office beverages and breakroom supplies are all we do. Companies like Galaxie Coffee are not looking to branch out into a dozen different industries in order to do a lot of things adequately. We don’t like adequate. What we want is to be the best in the business. Office coffee service is what we do, and we do it well.

Here at Galaxie Coffee, we do not dabble in office supplies like paper clips and envelopes. We will never try to fix your broken thermal printer while dropping off a case of coffee and a couple of bottles of water. By the same token, don’t rely on your office supply company to handle your office coffee and breakroom supply requirements.

We’re Learning More about the Health Benefits of Coffee

We're Learning More about the Health Benefits of CoffeeGalaxie Coffee has devoted previous blog posts to discussing the potential health benefits of drinking coffee. Well, we are happy to report that the good news continues to come in. A recent article published by Vending Market Watch cites four more potential health benefits that make that morning cup of Joe even more intriguing.

1. Cancer Prevention

The coffee industry has been reluctant to draw link between coffee consumption and a lower risk for cancer due to a lack of hard data. However, a study published earlier this year in the International Journal of Cancer may provide that link we have been looking for. In a study involving 7,000 male subjects in Italy, those who consumed more than 3 cups of coffee per day were 53% less likely to develop prostate cancer as compared to those who drank less.

The study coincides with two others out of the UK. Studies from the University of Southampton and the University of Edinburgh revealed that people are less likely to develop hepatocellular cancer (a common form of liver cancer) if their coffee consumption was higher. The two studies combined data from 26 other studies looking at upwards of 2.25 million people. Coffee drinkers were 20% less likely to develop the liver cancer than those who drank no coffee at all.

2. Chronic Pain

Coffee could be a better treatment for chronic pain than long-term pharmaceutical use. A study from Boston Children’s Hospital looked at lab mice who were given medications, coffee, or additional sleep to treat chronic pain. The coffee drinking mice and their well-rested counterparts were less sensitive to pain than those taking the drugs. Researchers further discovered that a combination of enough sleep and regular coffee consumption could be better for pain management than prescription medications.

3. Diabetes

The relationship between coffee consumption and reduced risk of diabetes has been established for quite some time. But now we may have an explanation, thanks to a Chinese study that looked at the caffeine, caffeic acid, and chlorogenic acid found in coffee. The three substances appear to reduce the buildup of a certain protein linked to type II diabetes. The research suggest that caffeinated coffee is more beneficial in this regard than decaf.

4. Depression

Finally, a study from the Harvard School of Public Health suggests that regular coffee consumption may reduce the risk of suicide by as much as 50%. Researchers presented their data after looking at three large studies looking at the effects of caffeine as a central nervous system stimulant. They suggest that caffeine may act as a mild antidepressant that may partly explain lower rates of depression and suicide among regular coffee drinkers.

Here at Galaxie Coffee, we are always happy to learn more about the potential health benefits of coffee. We are equally happy to provide reliable office coffee service to your workplace. In addition to coffee and coffee machines, our service includes a wide variety of beverages, breakroom products, and more.

Does Offering Coffee and Tea Increase Employee Engagement?

Does Offering Coffee and Tea Increase Employee EngagementYou have been thinking about calling Galaxie Coffee to begin office coffee service at your workplace. You have been reluctant because you are not sure that just adding quality coffees and teas to your break room is going to make much of a difference. Well, you should still make that call. We will explain why in this blog post.

First, it is true that quality coffees and teas alone will not increase employee engagement or boost productivity. If they did, American workers would be constantly atop the productivity food chain given how much coffee we drink. We have been consuming large volumes of coffee for generations.

If it’s not the coffee and tea that does it, what is it? It is the environment in which it is offered. Quality does make a difference when it comes to office coffee and tea. Employees are not interested in poor quality products they don’t like. But employers who want to increase engagement and productivity have to combine high-quality coffees and teas with the right environment.

Engagement Equals Collaboration

The key to increasing engagement and productivity is collaboration. This can be easily observed by stepping back and looking at the cubicle mentality of the 1980s and 90s.

Companies began shifting to the cubicle model some 30 years ago in order to more efficiently handle office space needs and prevent workers from congregating around the water cooler. It was a model that may have worked for our parents, but it does not work in the modern office where collaboration requires people to actually spend time together outside of their cubicles.

It turns out that workers do better when they can collaborate in more relaxed spaces. They feel confined in cubicles and conference rooms. Conversely, they feel more free to pursue ideas and innovations in a lounge or café environment. That’s why so many companies are now transforming their tired break rooms into modern lounges rivaling anything the modern coffeehouse could offer.

Stocking That New Lounge

The discussion about quality coffee and tea as a way to increase employee engagement comes full circle once a company makes the effort to remodel the break room or open a lounge. If you want to make the lounge more enticing as a collaborative space, you have to offer beverages employees want. You need to offer them a reason to come to the company lounge other than grabbing a bagged lunch out of the refrigerator. That’s where quality coffee and tea become vitally important.

Quality coffee and tea products invite employees to sit down and relax for a while. Get three or four together with their favorite coffee or tea and they are likely to sit around and collaborate, innovate, and produce – all without being in their cubicles.

If you are looking to remodel your breakroom or establish a new lounge, we invite you to allow us to stock it. Galaxie Coffee serves the entire greater New York area with coffee, tea, and a full range of additional beverages.

How the Cold Brew Revolution is Impacting Iced Coffee

How the Cold Brew Revolution is Impacting Iced CoffeeWhat do you do on a hot summer day when you want a cup of coffee but you don’t want to drink something with steam coming off it? You opt for iced coffee. Or do you? These days, iced coffee is giving way to cold brew in ever-increasing volumes. You might even say we are in the midst of a cold brew revolution that is threatening to unseat iced coffee entirely.

Cold brew is not new by any means. It has been around for more than a decade, albeit mostly in the American Southeast. It wasn’t until a couple of major coffee chains began serving cold brew nationwide that the beverage took off. Now it’s on fire. Cold brew is offered at franchise operations and mom-and-pop cafés alike. That says nothing of the prepared beverage manufacturers who are bottling the stuff like water.

A Whole New Beverage

Perhaps the biggest and most profound impact of cold brew on iced coffee is best expressed in terms of the beverage being consumed. Iced coffee is typically prepared in one of two ways. It is either brewed hot and then chilled in a refrigerator prior to serving, or the hot coffee is poured immediately over ice and then served. Both methods have their issues.

Hot brewed coffee is naturally acidic. The problem with brewing ahead of time and then chilling in the refrigerator is that the temperature change brings out even more acidity. People who prefer cold brew do not want the acid. As for pouring hot coffee over ice, the diluting effects of melting ice speak for themselves.

Cold brew is entirely different because it is made by steeping ground coffee in room temperature water (it’s not really cold) for up to 20 hours. The time it takes to steep depends on the coffee being used and the flavor the brewer is looking for. As you can see, brewing cold requires a much bigger time commitment.

Planning Ahead of Time

The second significant impact is one of time. Because iced coffee can be produced relatively quickly, coffee shops and cafés don’t need to plan too far ahead in order to make sure they don’t run out. It is pretty easy to brew a pot of coffee and throw it in the refrigerator for a few hours to chill it. And if all else fails, just pour hot coffee over ice.

Serving cold brew requires planning much farther in advance. Coffee may have to be prepared days ahead of time during peak season just to make sure the proprietor doesn’t run out. That means coffee shops and cafés have to have extra storage space as well.

Lastly, iced coffee sales are falling in proportion to rising demand for cold brew. We would expect nothing different. Here at Galaxie Coffee, we have seen the trend ourselves. We know that cold brew is more popular than ever before, and we fully expect it to grow more popular this summer.

Introducing the New Lavit Beverage System

Introducing the New Lavit Beverage SystemHere at Galaxie Coffee, we are always looking at new products and services that we believe will benefit our customers. To that end, we are extremely proud to announce we are now offering the brand-new Lavit beverage system. This is no average water cooler. It is an entirely new technology that combines a traditional high-end water cooler concept with the convenience of single cup beverage service.

Lavit works on a very simple principle. It is a water cooler capable of offering three choices: still water, sparkling water, or specialty beverages (both still and sparkling) – on a cup-by-cup basis. Regardless of your choice, you will enjoy a cold drink that is both refreshing and delicious.

How It Works

The Lavit sparkling system is very simple to use. Just place a cup under the dispenser and choose either still or sparkling water. Press the button and watch your glass fill with cold, refreshing water. If you prefer one of their specialty beverages, insert a beverage capsule and then follow the instructions on the machine’s display.

Creating your own sparkling beverages is very similar to making a cup of coffee with one of our single-cup machines. If you can insert a capsule and press a button, you will have no problem using the Lavit beverage system.

A Sustainable Option

There is a lot to love about the Lavit system, including the fact that it is a sustainable option for water and flavored beverages. First and foremost, Lavit’s multi-patented, award-winning capsules are made using 100% recyclable aluminum. Eliminate virtually all waste by tossing used capsules in with the rest of your company’s recycling. Each cartridge uses 1/7th the amount of aluminum when compared with a soda can.

Clean Water for All

If what we have described thus far is not enough to encourage you to try the Lavit sparkling water cooler, we have one more carrot to tease you with: for every Lavit capsule purchased, the company behind this incredible machine donates to a charity known as One Drop.

One Drop exists to help provide clean drinking water to those in need throughout the world. That means every time you enjoy a great tasting sparkling beverage from your Lavit sparkling water cooler, you are also helping to provide clean water for someone else.

Galaxie Coffee is thrilled to be able to offer the Lavit sparkling water cooler to our customers throughout the greater New York area. If you have any questions about this great new machine, do not hesitate to reach out to us today. We would be more than happy to help you better understand the benefits of the Lavit concept.

In addition to sparkling water and beverages, Galaxie Coffee provides full coffee service along with teas, fruit juices and other beverages, and even break room and janitorial supplies. You can see a complete product list on our website.

What Will It Take for Corporate America to Embrace Eco-Friendly Paper Products?

What Will It Take for Corporate AmericaThe historical animus between corporate America and the environmental movement is no secret. For more than a decade, their competing interests have led them to butting heads more often than not. Yet lately it seems as though corporate America has started to warm up to the green message as increasingly more companies are beginning to make efforts to make their products, services, and business models more environmentally friendly. Eco-friendly paper products are a good example.

It would have been unheard of for a restaurant chain to use something like a paper straw five or six years ago. Everything was plastic back then. But paper straws are catching on slowly but surely. The same goes for eco-friendly cups, plates, utensils, etc. American corporations are even looking at eco-friendly packaging that goes beyond just substituting wooden pallets for plastic.

The question is, what will it take for corporate America to fully embrace eco-friendly paper products rather than continuing to give them only cursory attention? There are really only two things that will do it:

1. Public Pressure

A few years ago, the Home Depot big-box DIY store faced tremendous pressure from environmental groups over the continued sale of lumber taken from old-growth forests. It took a couple of years, but those environmental groups eventually convinced corporate management to stop selling the lumber.

If a large corporation can be convinced that something they are doing is not acceptable to customers, they will stop doing it. Right now, there is no desire to shift to eco-friendly paper products because companies do not perceive that their customers care about their current choices. The minute the public begins demanding a change, that change will come.

We are seeing many corporations form working committees to support their “green” initiatives. Most often it’s the millennial employees spearheading these projects. Galaxie Coffee fully supports these efforts and as prices come down due to increased usage, we are lowering our retail pricing as well.

2. A Healthier Bottom Line

Like it or not, businesses of all sizes – be they small companies like Galaxie Coffee or huge, global corporations – exist to make money for their owners. The driving force behind just about everything a corporation does is the bottom line. If eco-friendly paper products could be introduced, manufactured, and used in such a way as to improve the bottom line, you’d better believe corporate America would jump on board.

By the way, the desire for healthy bottom line is not a bad thing. It is what keeps all our employers in business; it is what ensures we all have jobs to pay our bills. Appealing to corporate America and its desire for a healthy bottom line is a very legitimate way to convince companies to embrace eco-friendly paper products. The makers of those products just have to find a way to make what they sell more desirable to corporate buyers.

Eco-friendly paper products are catching on with American business slowly but surely. In the meantime, our job at Galaxie Coffee is to continue to provide our customers in the greater New York area with the best possible office coffee service. We would be happy to provide service for your company, regardless of size or need.

3 Coffee Industry Trends to Watch for in 2017

Coffees of the World – Part 1Thus far, 2017 has been a very good year for the coffee industry. America’s favorite hot beverage (and sometimes cold, too) continues to dominate the market thanks to innovative new products emerging alongside our long-time favorites. Interestingly enough, we have noticed that some of the 2017 trends predicted toward the end of last year have not come to fruition. Others certainly have.

Below are three coffee industry trends to keep an eye on through the remainder of 2017. All three are showing good promise as ongoing trends of the future rather than merely flashes in the pan.

1. Cold Brew Replaces Iced Coffee

Iced coffee enjoyed a lot of success when it was first introduced. However, there is something a bit unseemly about pouring a hot beverage over ice, thereby diluting its flavor as the ice melts. Enter cold brew. Cold brew coffee has been gaining ground on its iced counterpart since the start of the year.

The appeal of cold brew is a medium bodied flavor without the bitterness of hot brewed coffee. And for those who love iced coffee, cold brew is a product that invites them to enjoy their coffee without having the flavor diluted by melting ice.

2. Nitro-Infused Coffee

Take your favorite coffee drink and put it on tap and you will create a very interesting beverage that coffee lovers are flocking to try. That’s right, infusing coffee with nitrogen and serving it from a tap is the coffee equivalent of beer on tap. Restaurants and cafés are loving this new drink because they can serve it to customers without as much cream and sugar. Coffee drinkers are warming up to it because nitrogen-infused coffee has a frothy, foamy head and a texture that is very similar to its alcoholic cousin.

3. Socially Packaged Ready-to-Drink

The third trend is only half about coffee. The other half is about packaging. We are seeing a trend among makers of ready-to-drink products focusing heavily on new options for packaging that make their products really pop on the internet. What’s behind this trend? The tendency of people to share every aspect of their lives on social media. Ready-to-drink coffee makers want packaging that looks attractive in photos so that when customers take selfies or snap pictures of themselves having a meal with friends, their products look good in those pictures.

Creating packaging that looks good on social media is marketing genius. Social media is now the number one way people communicate with friends and family, and the truth remains that a picture is worth 1,000 words. Creating something that looks good when posted to social media can only help boost a brand.

Here at Galaxie Coffee, we will be keeping an eye on the trends for the remainder of the year and into 2018. In the meantime, we invite you to consider us for your office coffee service. We carry a full range of hot and cold beverages, breakroom supplies, and janitorial supplies.

What Makes For A True Coffee Addict

What Makes For A True Coffee Addict

The Increasing Importance of Having a Break Room

The Increasing Importance of Having a Break RoomIs there someplace at work you can go when you need to take a break? A surprising study from 2014 showed that a majority of U.S. workers don’t take breaks during the day. Still, many feel they would be more productive if they were able to do so. Enter the employee break room.

There is an old idiom in American office culture that talks about meeting around the water cooler to discuss ideas. Often it’s last night’s Game of Thrones or Blacklist episode that is being discussed. Twenty years ago, this was thought to be a waste of time. In today’s office environment, this collaboration and discussion is looked upon favorably. We would suggest there is a better way to encourage collaboration among employees and allow them to take a break away from their desks and computers: give them a break room. Make it comfortable with great seating, maybe add foosball, air hockey or ping pong – and now you have the environment you’re looking for.

Too Few Taking Breaks

The previously mentioned study conducted in 2014 by Staples showed that 55% of U.S. workers don’t feel they can leave their desks to take a break. Approximately 20% don’t take breaks out of a sense of guilt. Some 59% of survey respondents indicated that more breaks would improve their happiness at work; 43% said more breaks would boost their personal happiness; 37% said regular breaks would improve their health.

Too few people take regular breaks despite the fact that we all know we should. It is not good, either physically or mentally, to sit staring at a computer screen for four straight hours. It is not healthy to be stuck in a cubicle and isolated from other human beings for long stretches of time. Humans need to get up, walk around and interact.

Break Room a Perfect Place

An employee break room is a perfect solution to employees not taking breaks because it combines the best of the office water cooler and meeting room. A break room is space where employees can socialize with one another in a setting free from telephones and e-mail. It is a space that naturally fosters collaboration without employees feeling like they have to do so when they get together.

The reality is that workers will naturally collaborate if you just let them. If you try to force it, collaboration becomes another part of the mundane workday that they have to slog their way through. But if you allow employees to simply be, in a relaxed space that does not constrain them to think or act a certain way, they do naturally what so many companies try to force.

A good break room is an open, comfortable space with plenty of seating, a coffee machine, perhaps a microwave, a refrigerator and don’t forget the games. Never underestimate its power to make your employees more happy and productive during the work day. Galaxie Coffee can help you with beverage service by providing modern, updated equipment and a full line of coffees, teas, and other beverages. We also stock break room supplies as well.
